Re: Dak's Place - 2020 Winter, Spring & Summer

Hi R!

The cat is mrrreow, out of the bag.

The Golden Corral in vancouver is buffeting somehow.

Took blinds down for a deep outdoor cleaning. Made a tangled mess out of the first one. Will be a puzzle to straighten it out. Maybe there is an app. Second one was a breeze.

G... nnoooOOOOO! They were in the middle of a major remodel when the virus hit. I was so looking forward to the new and improved buffet when this is over. *whimper*

Rain in the morning. We needed it. A cool day was REALLY nice.

The Girls thought 5 am was a good time to be up. We've been through this before and I'd holler them back to bed. They'd get up, repeat. This time, I made them do chores. For hours! Finally when it was a proper 'morning' time to be awake, they could quit working and have breakfast.

I got fingerprinted today. FBI aint got nothing on me. Caseworker will run a WA background check AND child abuse check too. Hope they're happy with boring reports. Caseworker visits us in a week for a 'tour' of my home. *gulp* Hope she doesn't wear white gloves.

I really miss my Tiko.

BYTE... *snicker* just buy new ones.

Closing down the buffets in this town will probably result in weight loss among certain religious groups. Going on Sundays was like watching hogs at the feeding trough. That & having to beat them to the buffet when more crab legs/boiled shrimp/raw oysters were added.

I could eat my weight in crab legs, boiled shrimp, & raw oysters. Unfortunately the only places left here that serve them now have that nasty Market Price/dozen.

There are still some MCL cafeterias around Indianapolis, where the staff just shuffles your plate down the line plopping on whatever you'd like. They're good, too. emoticon

We've been wondering if our favorite Korean BBQ buffet will reopen. There, you help yourself to prepared side dishes and raw meat to cook on the embedded grill at your table. Caucasians are usually a minority there. FE and I are pretty hefty, so we're always astounded by the huge platters of meats that the smaller Asian customers can put away and still be so slim. When I peel away the fat on a pork belly strip, the waitresses admonish me that I'm tossing the best part.

We have two Chinese buffets that have a wok area where you choose your own ingredients, and then they will cook them up for you. But the whole rest of both restaurants are serve yourself buffets. I haven't tried to go back to one, but the other is doing carry-out only.

Forced, I tell you, forced to buy filet mignon because the NY Strip was too close to sell by date. Can't afford FM in restaurants probably due to its being bacon wrapped. Obviously specialty training required to wrap bacon around a hunk of meat.

Also bought some bread & butter pickles & Blackberry jam made by the Amish at the greengrocer's stand. Over the summer I try to buy up as much jam, jellies, & pickles as I can afford because the local health departments make damn sure the food is safe...no artificial preservatives or colors & they use cane sugar & home made pectin.

Happy Saturday.

Fixed the tangled web I weaved with my blind.

Dry weather as far as the oracles can see. Not too awful hot in general. Today won't make it out of the 70s.

It's only 93 but the Heat Index is 101. Humidity is 49.5%, however, if you go outside for even five minutes & come back in, "sweat" will pour off you.
