Re: Dak's Place - 2019 Winter

I've resumed the gray and damp that I'm used to. It looks like G is powered back up. Lots and lots of swaths of no power including half my little community. It's a serious patchwork.

The Girls are doing two hour late for storm damage. (trees and power lines on roads).

just noticed... the major stores in town are still without power. I guess I'll wait to see if they power up today.

Well, we're getting the effects of the LAST storm you all sent our way.... Gusting over 30 mph so far, up to 40 mph coming. And it's 50 degrees out there! (Not to celebrate; it'll be down to 19 degrees Wednesday.)

My miserable cold is now an awful cold. I think it's trying to turn to bronchitis. I already have a scheduled appointment with the doctor Thursday, so I'll have her listen to lungs. Blech.

Re: Dak's Place - 2019 Winter

Hey! Our power was out by 2:15 am Sunday when FE got out of bed and noticed it. By 9:35 am today I was tired of being cold and decided to build a fire in the fireplace we never use. I keep the lanterns and candles in it between power outages. I was clearing those out when the landline phone (that has to be plugged into an electrical outlet to work) said, "to set the time, press..." Yay! Power!

A few minutes ago I powered up the computer and was quickly closing all the windows I had had open when last it was used, all of which were about that windstorm forecast. Just as I was about to close the NWS Watches, Warnings and Advisories page, for some reason I stopped to read it. This is what it says:

URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Seattle WA
1218 PM PST Mon Jan 7 2019

WAZ555-081200-
/O.NEW.KSEW.WI.Y.0003.190108T1400Z-190109T1400Z/
East Puget Sound Lowlands-
1218 PM PST Mon Jan 7 2019

...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM TUESDAY TO 6 AM PST WEDNESDAY...

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect from 6 AM Tuesday to 6 AM PST Wednesday.

* WIND...East wind 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Highest winds will be below the gaps in the Cascades.

* SOME AFFECTED LOCATIONS...Enumclaw, Black Diamond, North Bend, and Gold Bar.

* TIMING...Strong east winds will develop Tuesday morning and persist through Tuesday night.

Yeah, that's right, it had updated itself to today's brand new wind storm advisory. East winds have done the most damage to my place (including tearing off part of the roof) so they make me very nervous. Enumclaw is about 6 miles east of here, so I am hoping the wind speed will be reduced by the time it gets here. If you don't hear from me tomorrow, it'll be because of another outage.

Hope it's not bronchitis and that you feel better soon, Lis.

I'm sorry you lost power for so long, Gryphon.

We're under you LAST wind warning. Sustained at 30 mph, gusting over 40 so far.... It's 51 out there right now but will be 19 by tomorrow.

We are hosting our Kiwanis Winter Party in a couple of weeks. Two years ago, we hosted it as a Christmas party -- but we had an ice storm, and then another, and it ended up moved to the end of January. Turns out people liked that timing a lot better, because they weren't under Christmas pressures. So last year we left all of the Christmas decorations up, too. But Brett is off today and asked if I thought it would be okay to take Christmas down. It's 51. How often does THAT happen in January in Indiana? We're used to taking them down and then having to spread them out all over the garage, hoping it will warm up enough to melt off the snow and ice. Today he could just take it all down and immediately put it away. So...that's his agenda for today. emoticon

My cold took a big turn for the better in the night, so I may finally be seeing the end of this thing....

Andrew's first of two job interviews is in two minutes. Please think good thoughts for him. This is the one he REALLY wants!

Fingers crossed for Andrew and a big hug for Geogoddess.

It's breezy here while Enumclaw is up to 45 mph gusts. They don't seem to have added any more power outages yet there. The wind this morning raised my temps from 31 to 43, so it's rain instead of snow.

I'm glad you at least have a little bit warmer weather blowing in on those winds. Hope your power holds!

Andrew thought his interview went very well. If he makes the cut to the next round, there will be a timed writing test that he'll have to appear for next week. He's done well with those before, so here's hoping!

Meanwhile, he has another interview Monday, and a friend just passed his resume onto another public official last night, so another interview opportunity might be coming.

We just needed to get through the holidays for people to start hiring. emoticon

Even though the advisory was for 24 hours, it calmed down after a few hours with speeds in the 40s next to the foothills. Out here the strongest gust was prolly in the 30s. Only one impressive flicker of the lights and radio. The multi-county power company has restored power for over 200,000 customers since Sunday with less than 7000 to go.

during today's outing, I saw a bazillion power company trucks from everywhere. Someone called 'em in from Canada and Oregon. Probably more. There was no way our own power company could have fixed SO many outages.

The wind came? dang! I missed it completely.
