Re: Dak's Place - 2019 Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall

One year I didn't find out I had a mouse in the dining room until I went to take out the years-old Indian dried corn cobs for Thanksgiving. They'd been stripped. I found a stash of kernels inside a non-working regulator clock mounted on the back of a brick chimney. This was with two housebound cats.

D, the suet, sunflower hearts and thistle seed are pretty safe up on the squirrel-proof pole, but the birds throw out a lot of sunflower seeds to the ground. There's a little fence around the feeders, but one of the four outside cats knows how to get over it, so the raccoons and possums probably can too. There's no cat food left out at night, but I haven't picked up all the fallen apples yet--birds eat them too--and there are plenty of acorns on the ground, as well as flower and grass seeds galore. So there's plenty of other stuff for the wild critters to eat, bird feeders or not.

It was the sort of day when the sun seemed to set well before its scheduled time. Some rain fell and it's widespread now, but not heavy here. Better than a nor'easter.

Re: Dak's Place - 2019 Winter, Spring, Summer & Fall

It was in the 40s when I left at 7:30 AM & 70 when I got home around 1:30. Brrrrr! Had a CAT Scan & two MRIs...froze nearly to death at the lab. The new & improve SS co-pay was a heart stopper. Fortunately my younger sister wrote a check to pay it for me. Now I'll have to do something Nice for her. I had planned to make payments on the deductible but I was floored by the amount!

At the cold as outside lab, my first IV blew up my wrist vein so it had to be put in the crook of my elbow...not comfortable but I, at least, got one contrast addition that made my naughty bits feel all warm & cozy. I was rewarded for my bravery at a Chinese restaurant which had a reasonably priced lunch, $6.95 for a spring roll, egg drop soup, fried rice, & shrimp with lobster sauce, & then to McDonalds for a Chocolate shake.

People in Huntsville are strange...that or I look like a bag lady. I was holding my sister's purchases from a Bird supply store which included a yard Flamingo while she went to get the car and a nice lady asked me if I needed help. I must have looked forlorn. Two young men walked past me & sniggered at the Flamingo & I said "Attack, Flamingo!". They laughed & hurried past.

That was my adventures for the day.

M has always liked flamingos. No idea why. I was going past the Halloween decorations and spotted a skeleton flamingo. U-turn! We now have it out in the yard on its two wire legs.

What six year old wants to be Harley Quinn?? Mine! I barely know who that is. I had to get black lipstick, black nail polish, spray hair coloring, makeup. Holy cats! And, of course, the black and red dress, etc.

The rains have arrived and I hear they plan to stay all week. New pond is overflowing as it should. While puttering the other day, I found a 'hole' between the dirt and tub. I'm thinking it needs a 'time capsule' before I fill it in. Who knows how long that pond will be there. The last one was 30 years. I don't think I'll still be here in 30 years.

G...someone mentioned on FB that the seagulls are gone. Do they migrate? BL used to be seagull headquarters. Now, nothing.

D, I think this is the time of year when I start seeing gulls coming inland. I saw one fly over the yard a couple of days ago. So far, the migrating Canada Geese are missing up here. I've only seen and heard the 13 local Canadas flying around rather than the bigger flocks that start showing up in October for the last 20-some years. Of course the shooting gallery down the road may have reduced their numbers quite a lot. Last year, flocks were half their former size, ~200 birds in a flock rather than 400-500.

Sorry about your sticker shock, Geo. Maybe if the patients showed up with shawls and blankies, the lab folks would turn up the heat for them.

It's still raining.

doctoring places keep the temp down to hinder the growth of cooties. I've been given nicely heated sheets when I had laproscopic knee fixing. I was offered them at the eye surgery place.

Cooties are adaptable but the million dollar technology is not. Next time I go, I'm wearing leggings & thick wool socks. I did wear gloves, socks, & had three heated blankies on me.

Today was a good day because I got to take Metformin again & indulge in bad eating habits. Nuclear Medicine IVs mean none for 48 hours because the kidneys have to get rid of all that stuff & Metformin delays the process.

I took my neighbor's sister to the store & her 40 something nephew was free ballin' again. It might be interesting to see in a good looking, 20 something man but not in a bald head, pot gutted loser.

I had to look that up in the urban dictionary. Around here, it's called "going commando."

Most of those heavy rain cells roaming about lately missed us but we got nearly 3.5" over five days. The equivalent of a brief shower for you back east. A county west of here, across the Sound, had a mini-tornado (5 minutes, 90 yards wide, half mile long) that uprooted some trees and damaged a couple of houses. Today's high was 53 and it's not raining now.

I had to replace the house thermostat this week. It was eating batteries (every week) and then the furnace wouldn't run and it got a bit cold in here. I checked the youtube videos and found out it's pretty easy. Took me a bit cuz my up-close eyes are still lame. I did it!

M told me I had to get a job cuz I wouldn't buy her the $90 bundle of LOL Dolls. uhm.. yah. Someone is spoiled.

School conference week so they barely go to school before they come back home. I thought I was going to watch little neighbor boy again but they still haven't paid me for the last two times. I asked her today what she planned but she didn't reply. Just weird. I did say she had to pay before I would watch him again since it's been weeks and she hasn't paid. Just weirdness. We'll see how the week goes.

I've emailed all you guys. Probably went to your junk email account. You must order Girl Scout cookies NOW!! Wednesday is the last day. Let me know if you need a link.
